About Liz

Liz Murphy Thomas is an artist, photographer and educator. She holds a BFA in Creative Photography from the University of Florida and an MFA in Photography and Digital Imaging from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Her artwork investigates issues of identity, memory and the associations we give to our possessions. Liz's research interests include utilizing social media in art pedagogy, documenting the developing medium of digital imaging and conceptual histories of tourist sites and the broader sociological underpinnings of tourism.

Photograph selected for inclusion in Russian public installation

The photograph "Abandoned/Mims, FL" from the series The Land of Sunshine has been selected by the Museum of Contemporary Art in Perm, Russia for their newest public art project P-STOP. The project will permanently place 119 pieces of art into the city of Perm as bus shelters. A list of the participating artists can be found here.

Three images selected for ehibit on the winter season

The Fine Arts Center of Hot Springs has selected three of Liz's images for their upcoming exhibition WinterTide. The exhibit runs thorugh the month of December. More info on the gallery can be found here.

Conference panel of photography and digital images at national conference

A panel entitled Analogous Yet Asynchronous: Digital Imaging and Photography chaired by Liz Murphy Thomas will be presented on Saturday, November 12th in connection with the 2011 Southeastern College Art Conference (SECAC) at Savannah College of Art And Design in Savannah, GA. Panelists include Sarah Arkins, SCAD Savannah; Ronald Beverly, Howard University; Scott Turri, University of Pittsburgh; and Brooke White, the University of Mississippi.

Images selected for biennial exhibit of contemporary art

Several images of Liz's work have been selected for the biennial exhibit From These Hills: Contemporary Art in the Southern Appalachian Highlands at the William King Museum in Abingdon, VA. The exhibition will run from October 14th through February 2012. More information on the show and the museum can be found here and here.
